Potty Training

I decided last week we were going to start potty training. He starts preschool in September and has to be potty trained. When we pass by his school every morning, he tells me that is where he is going to school. This time the converstation went like this.
Josh: That is my school.
Me: You know what you have to do before you go to school?
Josh: I don't want to go potty.
Me: But Josh the teachers won't change your diaper.
Josh: I want to go to a different school.
Me: Josh, there isn't a school where they will change your diaper.
Josh: I want to go to my own school.

So right off the bat this is the attitude I am working with. Tuesday I drop him off a daycare and Caden's mom and Caden are standing there. She proceeds to tell me Caden has been going on the potty. He is 6 months younger than Josh. This cannot happen. :)

I figure Caden going on the potty is an incentive for Josh. Those two copy each other all the time. Josh is not fazed by this. Tuesday night he sits on the potty and we read books and nothing.

Wednesday morning he sits on the potty and pees. YAY! Not all of it makes it in the potty but still we have started. Wednesday night, he sits on the potty and nothing.

Thursday morning he sits on the potty and pees. YAY! I let him wear pull-ups (little boy underwear) and tell him if he pees at Daycare that he can wear pull-ups otherwise he goes to diapers. She takes them to the pool and before the go swimming the two girls (who are 4) have to go potty. She takes all of them in the potty and Josh sits too. YAY! No pee but still progress.
Thursday night he sits and pees in the potty again.

Friday morning he starts crabbing that he doesn't want to sit on the potty. This is not moving forward anymore. No pee and we have to go get pictures taken. We get to the cabin and have him sit before we go on the boat and we get pee and poo. Excitement!

The rest of the weekend consists of him whining "I don't want to sit on the potty" and "put my diaper on". I swear he is holding it in everytime he sits on the potty. He tells me he will sit on my potty at home. We get home Sunday and he does (not without whining) but still nothing,

This morning he cries and doesn't want to but after bribery (we promise to open his toy) he sits and pees. He is very excited.

So it is slowly moving forward. He doesn't want a diaper on so I think he is getting there but the effort of sitting on the potty and missing fun seems to be a deterrant. Next week we are on vacation and he is stuck with me all week so hopefully we will be potty trained one day.

I remember as a baby I was convinced he would never eat solid food and only eat baby food. I am now convinced he will be in diapers forever. They better start making bigger sizes. :)
